When we received Grace Gillespie’s song ‘Goodbye’ in our inbox, it also came with a touchingly personable letter about this London-based artist’s journey and continuing strife within the music industry. ‘Goodbye’ is all about toying with the idea of relinquishing the dream of pursuing music, especially in a time of such uncertainty, but as the song progresses, the realisation dawns that the lyrics, the melodies, the ideas will never stop flowing and therefore the dream can never truly die. As Gillespie sweetly puts it: “I always contemplate giving up music because it’s a huge and complex commitment. It is draining, financially, emotionally and therefore physically. Thankfully I am not very sensible and surprisingly resilient.” We’re also thankful for her passionate determination, as it means we have delightful indie-folk tracks like ‘Goodbye’ to listen to today. - Hannah Thacker
